The community of High Falls sprang up near where the Deep River cascades down a 15-foot waterfall. Native Americans called the area "Great Falls." The first gristmill was erected on the falls by William England in 1780. More than a century later, in 1904, Thomas Woody established the High Falls Manufacturing Company, which consisted of spinning mill, a cotton mill and the area’s second gristmill. Nestled in the clay hills of northern Moore County, High Falls offers a quaint look back on time.
