This beautiful area in the southwestern part of the county offered an early hint of the famed resort Moore County was to become.  It was during a hunting trip in the late 1700s that Williams Jackson discovered the spring that would later be named for him, and the medicinal qualities of the spring's water drew people seeking its healing powers.  In the 1890s, forward-thinking entrepreneurs built the 100-room Jackson Springs Hotel, a health spa and resort with tennis courts and golf course.  The precious water that spurred this growth won a silver medal at the 1904 St. Louis World's Fair.  The hotel was destroyed in a 1932 fire, but its legacy lives on in the tone it set for Moore County.
